WWW Fort Ord CAG
Searches on the Fort Ord CAG website may result with a minimum number of returns (hits) due to
the newness of the site. The dominate root url for Fort Ord is www.fortordcleanup.com. The
fortordcleanup.com website does not necessarily recognize, nor readily  share the same concerns
about the Fort Ord Cleanup effort as the CAG and other community based organizations. This very
fact has contributed to the dissemination of information surrounding the Fort Ord cleanup effort  and
the transfer process. In addition, the elimination of the
Fort Ord Reuse Advisory Board (RAB) by the
Army in 1999  has caused greater difficulty for citizens to participate.

It is important to note that the Fort Ord Army base was a registered Superfund site long before it
became a BRAC project. The former Fort Ord Army Base remains on the National Priorities List,
therefore it continues to be treated as a Superfund/CERCLA site. The Army Base and Realignment
Cleanup Team has recently renamed the  Fort Ord Superfund Site  as
"Former Fort Ord."  This action
appears to be another attempt at disseminating the information and facts about the Fort Ord
Superfund Site. Knowing these facts may assist you with researching  topics on Fort Ord.

The Fort Ord Superfund Site is currently being transferred for development purpose without being
cleaned to levels that are safe for human beings and the environment. Prior to some developments
taking place, many cleanup efforts will be privatized. This is due to the EPA, BRAC FFA contract
expiring.

The questions remain, Who will pay for these cleanups and how?  Who will oversee the contractors
responsible for further cleanup of the Fort Ord Superfund Site?;  Who will make them accountable for
meeting the regulatory cleanup limits and procedures dictated by the US EPA and the California
Environmental Protection Agency?  (aka. Department of Toxic Substances and Control).

What Risk Assessment Protocol will they use if any?

Over $350M has gone into the cleanup of Fort Ord, will the tax payers of California have to pay for it
again........??

Should inhabitants of this property become sick and diseased by the contaminants left by the Army,
who will pay for their medical treatments and personal injuries?   The list goes on........Lets fix what
will be tomorrow's problems today! If we can't afford to do right the first time, how are we going to
afford to do it right the second time?
